New team to manage JOHCM UK Dynamic Strategy

J O Hambro announces new team to manage JOHCM UK Dynamic Strategy

We are pleased to announce the evolution of our UK equities capabilities with the creation of a new investment team, combining our UK Dynamic and UK Growth capabilities into one group. In addition, Tom Matthews will be joining this team as a portfolio manager. This new team will take responsibility for both the JOHCM UK Dynamic and JOHCM UK Growth strategies.

Vishal Bhatia, Tom Matthews and Mark Costar will replace Alex Savvides as portfolio managers on the UK Dynamic Strategy. The existing analyst team supporting the UK Dynamic strategy will remain in place. Combined, the team has over 90-years of industry experience and strong, proven long-term track records.

The new team will continue with the robust, disciplined investment process currently in place. It leverages the long-standing experience of Vishal Bhatia and Mark Costar, who have worked alongside the UK Dynamic team since its inception in 2008. Vishal and Mark were heavily involved in the formative years of the product and have retained a strong, close working relationship with the strategy ever since. They will work with Tom Matthews who was a senior analyst on UK Dynamic for 8-years before becoming co-head of sustainable investments in December 2021. This combination, along with the analyst support, brings continuity, understanding and experience.

This transition approach follows the same proven, effective model that delivered strong and consistent returns for clients, building on the deep well of expertise in house, as it has done historically. The new team will be supported by in-depth investment expertise across our UK equity platform, including Clive Beagles and James Lowen, co-managers of the JOHCM UK Equity Income strategy, and Rachel Reutter and Michael Ulrich, co-managers of the UK Opportunities strategy.

Team biographies:
Vishal Bhatia, Senior Fund Manager
Vishal is a Senior Fund Manager for the JOHCM UK Growth and JOHCM UK Dynamic strategies. Prior to joining JOHCM, Vishal worked at Merrill Lynch as a European Telecommunications Equipment Analyst. Vishal holds a BSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science and is a CFA Charterholder.

Mark Costar, Senior Fund Manager
Mark is a Senior Fund Manager of the JOHCM UK Growth and JOHCM UK Dynamic strategies. Prior to joining JOHCM, Mark spent nine years at Clerical Medical Investment Group, where he was responsible for managing approximately £2 billion. He managed the Clerical Medical UK Growth Fund from July 1996. Mark holds a BSc (Hons) in Industrial Economics from the University of Warwick.

Tom Matthews, Portfolio Manager
Tom is a Portfolio Manager of the JOHCM UK Dynamic strategy. Previously, he was Senior Manager of the Sustainable Investment's team having co-founded the team at the beginning of 2022. Formerly, he was Senior Analyst on the JOHCM UK Dynamic Fund for eight yearswhere he was responsible for designing the Fund’s integrated approach to ESG and sustainability. Tom completed a postgraduate certificate in Sustainable Leadership at the University of Cambridge, is a qualified accountant, and has an MA in Economics and Management from University of Oxford
